Welcome

Good Afternoon Azusa High School Familia,

I am excited to introduce to you Betty Sodir, our Community Schools Program Specialist and Maritza Martinez, our Community Schools Educational Community Worker. As you know, Azusa High School has partnered with the Los Angeles County Office of Education to
become a Community School. The purpose of a Community School is to build equity for students by highlighting areas of need and leveraging community resources so that students are healthy, prepared for
college, and career and civic ready. A Community School serves as the hub of its community and unites families, educators and community partners in an effort to provide all students with top-quality
academics, enrichment, health and social services, and opportunities to succeed in school and in life. Together, we will aim to improve student outcomes, reduce mental health stigma and social isolation, as
well as strengthen community partnerships by building new alliances and networks.

The program specialist role includes maximizing capacity of current resources and support systems to address the needs of our students and families. The goal is to collaborate with school staff including
administrators, counselors, and teachers to identify, develop and implement school-wide support systems as we aim to reduce barriers and increase academic achievement for the students of Azusa High School.

The role of the Education Community Worker is to support the enhancement of family and community
engagement at Azusa High School.

They are assigned to support Azusa High School Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00 pm. Betty will be located in the front office and Maritza will be in room 1, the Parent and Community Center. If you have questions or would like more information, please feel free to contact Betty at 626-815-3469, sodir_betty@lacoe.org and Maritza at 626-815-3413, martinez_maritza@lacoe.org or stop by their office.

I am looking forward to our collaboration as we embark on this journey together to support our students
and families.

Sincerely,
Martin Gomez
