COURSE DESCRIPTIONS SPECIAL EDUCATION CLASSES

Reading Essentials I (RSP) LA145R Grades 9-11 Year

This course must be taken concurrently with English I, II, or III.
Designed to help students master reading and writing through guided instruction in understanding literary and informational text, development of clear, coherent and focused essays and practice in narrative, expository, persuasive and descriptive essays.

CAHSEE Language Arts (RSP) ND909R Grades 11-12 Semester

All students in California must pass the High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) in order to receive a high school diploma. This course is designed to assist RSP students who have not passed the CAHSEE Language Arts test. The course emphasizes test taking skills and concentrates on solving problems similar to those on the California High School Exit Exam. A RSP student may earn elective credit for up to two semesters if the student is in two semesters.

This course is designated to assist RSP students who have not passed the CAHSEE Math test. The course emphasizes test taking skills and concentrates on solving problems similar to those on the California High School Exit Exam. A RSP student may earn math credit for only one semester and elective credit for the other semester if the student is in two semesters.

Resource Specialist Program (RSP) - Placement determined by IEP Team. Students are enrolled in special education classes less than 50% of their day. They are serviced within the regular classroom with support from the RSP teacher and aide. They may take Reading Essentials, CAHSEE Math, CAHSEE LA, Pre-Algebra, or Algebra I classes in RSP as determined by their RSP teacher.

Special Day Class (SDC) - Placement determined by IEP team. Students are enrolled in special education classes more than 50% of their day and may take all core classes within this program (English, Math, Social Studies and Science). Work Experience.
