English Language Advisory Committee Supervisors
L-R: LeRoy Sherman, Tony Garcia, Lettie Enriquez, David Medrano
ELAC (English Language Advisory Committee) is a body that consists of parents, community aides, administration, students and an EL coordinator. The meetings are held four times per school year: October, November, February and May.
During the first meeting a president, vice-president, and secretary are elected. Generally speaking, the secretary attends and represents AHS at the district ELAC meetings. The second and third meetings include, but are not limited to, giving information on graduation requirements, summer school, clubs/sports, college, the U.S. census, the role of counselors, and community offerings.
All meetings include speakers, information pamphlets, time for questions/answers, and feedback from the ELAC's elected parents. The last meeting honors up to 50 students chosen by the teachers, students from our migrant program (PASS), and elected officials in an upbeat, fun, and celebratory fashion.
Please feel free to join us at our ELAC meeting. It's a great way to get involved, get to know the community, and honor our EL population.
